Newcastle City Central Area Mine Subsidence Guidelines

The below maps and guidelines are provided solely to assist the community to understand the type and extent of mine workings in and around the Newcastle City Central Area (NCCA) and to assist the community to obtain a general understanding of the types of conditions which may be imposed by Subsidence Advisory NSW (SA NSW) in relation to the subdivision or surface development of land within the NCCA.

It is important to consult with the SA NSW and Newcastle City Council before engaging in any surface development in the Newcastle Local Government Area. SA NSW’s approval is required for any subdivision and/or any surface development in a declared mine subsidence district.

The source data used to compile the maps has been obtained by SA NSW from records held by:

- NSW Planning and Environment - Division of Resources & Geosciences

- NSW Department of Finance, Services & Innovation – Spatial Services

- Newcastle City Council

- Mine operators.

Accordingly, no warranty is expressed or can be implied as to the accuracy of the maps or that the maps are free from any error or omission. Licence to use and reproduce maps and guidelines

The maps and guidelines are subject to copyright and made available for use subject to the above disclaimer and in accordance with the following conditions:

1. The maps and/or guidelines are not to be used for any purpose other than to obtain a preliminary overview of the extent of mine workings in the NCCA and the conditions which may be imposed by SA NSW on the subdivision or surface development of land in the NCCA.

2. Neither the maps nor the guidelines are to be used or relied on for detailed planning or structural design.

3. Neither the maps nor the guidelines may be reproduced or otherwise used for commercial gain. In any event, the maps and guidelines may only be reproduced in full and must include a copy of the above disclaimer and these conditions. It is the responsibility of the user of these maps and guidelines to ensure that any printed copy is identical to the most recent edition and/or version of the plans and guidelines published by SA NSW.

4. The accuracy of the maps varies subject to the accuracy of the source data used in their preparation; the accuracy of the source data may be affected by a number of factors. It is the responsibility of the user of these maps and guidelines to ensure that the maps meet the user’s requirements. Contact should be made with the entities named above, specifically the NSW Planning and Environment - Division of Resources & Geosciences; ; mine owners; the Department of Finance, Services & Innovation – Spatial Services and Newcastle City Council, to verify the accuracy or otherwise of the source data.

5. The guidelines set out information of a general nature relating to the type of mine workings within the NCCA and general conditions which may be imposed in respect of any approval given by SA NSW for the subdivision or surface development of land within the NCCA. The guidelines are not conclusive and SA NSW may impose additional and/or alternate conditions in respect of any subdivision or surface development of land.

6. SA NSW reserves the right to refuse the approval of any subdivision or surface development of land.

7. SA NSW reserves the right to amend the maps and/or guidelines at any time and for any reason without notice to any user of those maps and/or guidelines.
